The government gives away hundreds of billions of dollars each year in grants, mostly to people like you and me who need the cash to get out of debt, fund a college education, start a new business, etc. If you’re looking for a way to get out of an impending financial hole this year, then applying for a government grant may be worth a shot.

Government grant programs let you in on this government boon by giving services to help you out of your predicament, or simply by coursing some much-needed money to you in the form of a check. Your application’s chances of success depends on the type of help you’re looking for and whether you can meet the grant’s requirements for eligibility.

Government grant programs help fund several different causes such as starting up a new business (or expanding an existing one), going to college, getting a new home, receiving some much-needed health care, and many other needs that the average American has these days. The aid doesn’t necessarily come to you in money form – for instance, a government grant for higher education may come in the form of a reduction in tuition fees.

One of the most helpful uses of government grants is to help you get out of the debt trap. Credit debt is practically what caused the current financial crisis, and is known worldwide as one of the major American problems. There are debt consolidation organizations out there who can give you debt relief assistance free of charge. These organizations receive grants from the government so they can offer their valuable services to you for free.

Other organizations receive business grants from the government, and they in turn give out free business consultation services and loans. These organizations also help out in starting or expanding your own business, and can do so for free as well. In some states, businesses can also receive generous grants to spur employment and expansion.

But for problems closer to home, grants can also help you keep your home by paying for your mortgage when it’s almost due, or by paying your landlord and getting you some free rent for a time. This help can amount to savings for you, which you can then use to find other money-making ventures.

Whatever your problem is, see if the government can help you out. A government grant may just give you the leverage to get back on your feet and find other ways to never need financial help ever again.
